Dialectical Behavior Therapy has proven to be an effective treatment for the symptoms of depression, including finding it difficult to concentrate, think, or remember. It also helps counter constant sadness or irritability or a loss of interest in life or activates once enjoyed. Dialectical Behavior Therapy helps emotionally sensitive people build emotional coping mechanisms to better manage intensely heightened emotional responses. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy can help you find balance when experiencing black or white (all-or-nothing) thinking or when facing drastic change.

Should I only do the DBT Skills training or also include Individual Therapy?

Individual therapy is part of DBT therapy and it serves these purposes:

1) Improve Motivation: This section focuses on improving client motivation and assisting clients in applying the skills to particular difficulties and life events. As long as the client is in therapy, individual counselling occurs once a week alongside DBT skills training in the traditional Dialectical Behaviour Therapy approach.

2) Case Management in Individual Therapy to Structure the Environment - The objective is to assist the client in managing his or her own life, including their physical and social circumstances, while the client learns to apply the skills and accomplish this on their own. Only when necessary will case management be implemented

Participants are at different stages of their mental wellness road. Many people benefit from learning the skills that this course teaches without doing individual therapy. You may choose to complete the program with or without the support of an individual therapist.

Evidence to support Dialectical Behavioral Therapy:

Evidence to support Dialectical Behavioral Therapy:

In the first randomised controlled study (RCT) of DBT, which was conducted on chronically suicidal and self-harming women with borderline personality disorder—a clinical population that had previously been thought to be incurable—it was discovered that DBT produced considerable gains (Linehan et al., 1991).
