A Psychiatrist?
Please let your therapist know your interest in working alongside a psychiatrist. Consultations can be booked after your second psychotherapy session. You will get a referral form to give to your family doctor.

02. Is Psychiatrist Consultation Covered By OHIP?
consultation occurs with your psychotherapist/case manager and psychiatrist. The psychiatrist time is covered by ohip, psychotherapist time is covered based on your individual insurance plan.
They work together to help complete the intake to ensure all relevant information is provided.

The first consultation is 120 minutes long, after that the doctor will make recommendations for follow ups depending on your situation. Follow ups are 20 minutes long so they can take place during a regular psychotherapy session.

1. What services does The Insight Clinic provide in psychiatry?
We offer comprehensive psychiatric care, including:
- Diagnostic assessments for mental health conditions
- Medication management
- Treatment planning for conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and more
2. Who are your psychiatrists?
Our psychiatry service is offered through collaboration with Psychotherapy Matters. The psychiatrist are fully licensed medical doctors specializing in mental health. They have extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions. Each psychiatrist works collaboratively with clients to develop personalized treatment plans.
3. How do I book an appointment? How long does it take to book?
Our psychiatric service is offered as part of a collaborative service that brings together one of our therapists or social workers and a psychiatrist. To access this service, clients being with at least 2 psychotherapy sessions with one of our therapists or social workers.
To book an appointment, you can:
- Call our clinic at : 289-483-0133, and let us know you are looking to book a psychiatric assessment. Our staff will book you with a therapist or social worker who collaborates with the Psychiatrists.
It typically takes 6-8 weeks to see the psychiatrist.
4. What should I expect during my psychiatric appointment?
Your appointment typically includes:
- A thorough review of your medical and mental health history
- Discussion of your current concerns and symptoms
- Possible assessment tools or questionnaires
- A collaborative discussion on treatment options
Expect the appointment to last 120 minutes/2 hours.
5. Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist at The Insight Clinic?
Following your two sessions with a psychotherapist or social worker, we provide you with a referral form .
6. Are there follow-up appointments?
Yes. A follow-up appointment can be requested and usually runs 15–20 minutes. This allows your psychiatrist to monitor progress, adjust medications, and discuss any concerns.
7. Do they prescribe medications?
Yes. Our psychiatrists can prescribe medications as part of your treatment plan when appropriate. Medication management is closely monitored to ensure safety and effectiveness.
For example, if your plan covers 80% up to $1,000 annually, you would be reimbursed $160 of a $200 session until your maximum is reached.
8. Are psychiatry appointments covered by insurance?
Many insurance plans cover psychotherapy and/or social workers. We recommend to check with your insurance provider for further details regarding coverage.
The Psychiatrist is covered by OHIP, so there’s no fee for that portion.
If ADHD or ASD diagnostic testing is required, there is an addition $350.00 fee, paid directly to Psychotherapy Matters. If it’s a combined assessment (ASD and ADHD), the cost is $450.00.
We recommend to follow up with individual insurance plans regarding coverage for Psychotherapy Matters fees.
- Your benefits reset (often annually), or
- You have coverage through another plan (e.g., a spouse’s plan).
9. Can I access virtual appointments?
Yes. The psychiatric assessment is completed virtually. If preferred, you can complete the assessment in-person at The Insight Clinic along side your psychotherapist or social worker, who attends this appointment with you. Virtual appointments are secure and confidential.
10. How is my privacy protected?
All consultations and records are confidential. We comply with all applicable privacy laws and regulations to protect your personal health information.
