Gretchen Savery is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) at The Insight Clinic who creates a warm, supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and encouraged as they work through life’s challenges and move toward meaningful change.
Gretchen often supports clients experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional regulation challenges, ADHD, low self-esteem, confidence concerns, and difficult life transitions. She especially enjoys working with teens and young adults as they navigate important stages of growth, identity development, emotional awareness, relationships, confidence-building, and decisions about their next steps.
Gretchen mainly draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy. In simple terms, she helps clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships while giving them practical tools they can use outside of session. Her approach is collaborative, compassionate, and focused on helping clients build insight, confidence, and real-life coping strategies.
Clients and colleagues often describe Gretchen as kind, patient, empathetic, and reliable. One of her strengths is helping people feel safe enough to open up at their own pace without feeling judged or rushed. She brings warmth, curiosity, and genuine care into the therapy room and sees therapy as a process where clients do not have to carry everything alone.
Gretchen speaks fluent Spanish and brings her Hispanic/Latino background into her work in a way that helps her connect with clients from diverse cultures and life experiences. Before becoming a psychotherapist, she worked as a teacher for many years with children and young adults. She also worked in curriculum development at a university, supporting professors, building learning communities, and participating in educational events.
Gretchen has a Master’s degree in Family Therapy and Systemic Interventions, which continues to shape the way she works with clients. Even in individual therapy, she pays attention to the bigger picture of a person’s life, including their relationships, family, environment, and the systems that have shaped their experiences.
For Gretchen, client success means seeing the work done in therapy begin to show up in real life. This may look like a client recognizing what is happening inside them, using a tool they practised in session, responding differently in a difficult moment, or feeling more confident asking for help when needed. Some of the most meaningful moments are when clients say, “I remembered what we talked about,” or “I used what we worked on, and it helped.” To Gretchen, success means therapy becomes something clients can carry with them outside of the room.
Outside of work, Gretchen enjoys being in nature, especially near the beach. She also loves dancing, sharing good food, spending time with family and friends, and learning about things that spark her curiosity.
Over the next year, Gretchen would like to continue growing in the areas of trauma, ADHD, and autism so she can deepen the support she provides to clients with different needs, strengths, and life experiences.
