Ana Medina Alvarez is a Registered Psychotherapist at The Insight Clinic and a vital part of the psychotherapy providers team. She supports children, teens, adults, and families with a calm, accepting, and deeply compassionate approach to care.

Ana often works with children and teenagers experiencing mental health challenges, families in distress, and clients of all ages navigating complex trauma. She is especially energized by supporting child-rearing families, helping parents and children better understand one another, strengthen emotional connection, and move through difficult periods with greater clarity and confidence.
Ana uses a broad range of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, Play Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Her approach is flexible and individualized, allowing her to meet clients where they are and support them in ways that fit their needs, goals, and emotional readiness.
Clients and colleagues often recognize Ana’s strengths in EMDR and Play Therapy, especially when supporting complex clients and families. Her style is calm, accepting, and grounded in respect for who each client is. She creates a safe therapeutic space where clients can feel seen, understood, and supported as they work through trauma, emotional distress, family conflict, anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism-related concerns, and behavioural or relational challenges.
Ana brings a unique depth of professional and personal experience to her work. Before practising as a psychotherapist in Canada, she worked in another country as a specialist physician and adult psychiatrist . She also brings lived experience as a wife and mother of grown children, giving her a strong understanding of family development, parenting stress, emotional growth, and life transitions. Ana is Latina and speaks both English and Spanish fluently.
For Ana, client success means achieving meaningful goals, reducing symptoms, and making progress in self-understanding. She values helping clients gain insight into themselves, improve emotional regulation, strengthen relationships, and experience greater stability and confidence in daily life.
Outside of work, Ana enjoys gardening, walking her dogs, and spending time in nature.
Over the next year, Ana is focused on becoming fully EMDRIA certified and continuing her therapy certification pathway, with possible future steps into supervision roles.
