Carmen Gilda Sainz is a counsellor at The Insight Clinic in Whitby who provides in-person and virtual psychotherapy for adolescents, young adults, adults, and families. She supports clients with ADHD, executive functioning difficulties, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, family conflict, social challenges, academic underperformance, life transitions, insomnia, and productivity or life-structure difficulties. Carmen is especially passionate about helping clients who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected build practical systems that improve daily functioning and support meaningful personal goals.
Carmen’s psychotherapy approach is structured, evidence-based, and practical, while still being warm, respectful, and flexible. She integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), systemic and family therapy, and trauma-informed, emotion-focused approaches to help clients better understand how their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and environments interact. Her work focuses not only on symptom relief, but also on improving real-world functioning, emotional regulation, self-awareness, decision-making, and autonomy.
She works especially well with teens, young adults, and adults with ADHD or ADHD-like traits, as well as families trying to better understand and support a neurodivergent family member. Carmen is known for her clear, honest, and direct communication, strong analytical thinking, and ability to turn insight into practical next steps. She helps clients move from insight to structure to behaviour change, with a strong focus on tools, systems, and long-term independence rather than therapy dependency.
Carmen brings a unique multicultural and interdisciplinary perspective to her psychotherapy work. She is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and draws from a background in education, clinical psychology, systems thinking, and entrepreneurship. Her professional interests include ADHD, adult ASD, trauma, family systems, executive functioning, and insomnia, and she hopes to continue deepening her expertise in these areas, including the integration of CBT-I and neurofeedback-informed support over time.
